Chimney Liner Extension
A large fossil fuel power generation facility was experiencing a variety of problems with exterior elements of a 600’+ tall reinforced concrete chimney.
As part of a major planned outage, PULLMAN was engaged to help design and build a solution to alleviate the challenges. A solution was developed to raise the liner of the chimney 17’ feet above the existing chimney cap. This extension would allow for greater plume dispersion and reduce ice formation.
The design team selected alloy steel as the material for the liner extension. The project also included a variety of additional chimney and liner modifications including liquid collection, breeching, and a new floor in the liner base.
Overall, the project was designed and completed in eight weeks and was completed with zero safety incidents.
