A nuclear power plant needed emergency repairs to its buried condensate pipe system after an inspection revealed deterioration of the exterior coating, especially at the welds.

PULLMAN, an exclusive licencee of STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES’ products and technical support services, performed a long-term solution that avoided a shutdown during installation. The team utilized the V-Wrap™ Carbon Fiber pipe system to strengthen the existing pipes.

The pipe repairs were performed in five phases/sections. For each section, the pipe was excavated and the V-Wrap™ Carbon Fiber pipe system was installed in several steps. The team performed regular quality assurance and quality control tests to validate the adhesion of the composite system. Clamps were also installed at pipe weld locations for additional strengthening. After final testing, the excavated area was backfilled and the team moved on to the next section.

In a 14-week schedule, over 5,000 lineal feet of piping was strengthened.
